Tables

Thursday 31 May 2012

Sculptures of tables have been an ongoing theme in Saron Hughes' work. A group of the most recent tables will be on show here for the first time.

For Hughes, tables represent a potential space for thinking. The ground level she has previously worked at has been raised to a height more associated with consciousness and principles. In referencing such an everyday object, her tables are both mundane and obvious yet also highly abstract and implausible. Influenced by the 70s modernist furniture that Hughes grew up with, they are also sculptures of formative memories.
